Employee volunteering policy

Kentec’s Electronics Ltd volunteering policy sets out its position on giving employees the opportunities to become involved in volunteering projects and take an active part in the local community.

The Company policy on volunteering sets out how the Company will support those employees who choose to volunteer.

Time off to volunteer

Kentec Electronics Ltd supports a local charity organisation “Beams” https://wearebeams.org.uk/ but the Company is also open to suggestions from its employees for new volunteering arrangements with charities or other bodies where volunteer work is available in our local community (Dartford, Gravesend, Erith, Rochester and other areas close to our organisation).

Employees should provide a copy of any confirmation from the charity that they have been accepted as a volunteer.

The Company allows a maximum of 1 day of volunteering leave.

The Company’s volunteering leave is paid and a maximum of 5 employees can volunteer per year spread over the company.

The Company may, unfortunately, need to reject requests for volunteering leave if the request cannot be accommodated due to business reasons.

Applications

Employees should submit a volunteering application to their line manager if they wish to apply for volunteering work.

An employee can register their interest by completing a volunteering application.

The application will ask the employee to provide details of the following:

  • volunteer project name and type
  • reasons why the employee is wishing to volunteer
  • the skills the employee can bring to the project
  • the timescale for the project and the time the employee proposes to allot to the project

Consideration of application

The volunteering leave should be requested in blocks of time no fewer than one month and approved by your department’s manager. The volunteering days will take place only by the first half of each month.

The employee’s line manager will discuss the application with the HR department to determine whether to grant or reject the application.

The Company will reject applications for operational reasons if the employee’s line manager believes the employee’s work will suffer.

When the employee’s line manager has granted the employee’s application for voluntary work, the line manager will meet with the employee to provide the outcome and set up the relevant documentation (a copy of any confirmation from the charity that they have been accepted as a volunteer).

The Employee Volunteering policy is a trial and we will review it again by August 2022.
