Over the past couple weeks, we’ve had the pleasure of welcoming a group of work experience students to Kentec, giving them the opportunity to explore different roles, meet our teams and gain an insight into the world of work.
There were plenty of family connections among the group, with several students getting a behind-the-scenes look at where their parents work. Each student spent time with different departments, discovering the variety of people, skills and processes that keep our business moving.
Jonas, son of Research and Development Engineer Zydrune Seniute, joined our R&D team for a hands-on introduction to product development and testing. During his placement, he worked with fire panels, wireless devices and electrical circuits, while also learning more about mechanical design, printed circuit boards, software testing and electromagnetic compatibility testing.
Hemish, whose mum Kamini Photographer is our Credit Controller, spent time across Marketing, Finance and IT. His week included learning more about how each department supports the wider business, helping to create social media content and getting hands-on with a PC teardown.
Hemish was joined in Marketing by fellow Dartford Grammar School student Alvin, who also spent time with HR and Quality Assurance. Both students brought fresh ideas and enthusiasm to the Marketing team, even helping to create some video content featuring our very own Andy Wilton. Keep an eye on our channels for their work – coming soon!
Technical Support and Training Manager Peter Bone’s son spent his placement with the Technical Support and Validation departments, where he learned more about how fire panels work, how products are tested and how our teams identify and investigate technical issues.
Nicola spent time across Finance, Sales, Purchasing and Stores, giving her an insight into both the commercial and operational sides of the business. She learned more about the processes behind each department, how products and information move through the business, and how teams work together to support customers and keep day-to-day operations running smoothly.
Lucia, daughter of Verification Test Engineer Claudia Sayago, gained hands-on experience across our R&D team. She worked on rewiring fire control panels, configuring wireless fire systems and developing her soldering skills, before collaborating with our mechanical engineers on 3D designs. She also spent time with the Test Engineering team, learning how products are checked for performance, reliability and compliance, and gaining a clearer understanding of how different teams take a product from concept through to production.
Work experience gives young people the opportunity to ask questions, try something new and discover career paths they may not have considered before.
It was a delight to have the students with us, and we were impressed by the enthusiasm, curiosity and professionalism they showed throughout their placements.
We’re proud to support opportunities that help the next generation build confidence, develop new skills and gain valuable experience of the workplace.
